Answer: It is too large for one person. First of all, it could be heavy and then it would be floppy and impossible to get it on to the car by yourself. I always lay it out on the roof and load it once it's there.

And this carrier is capable of holding rigid and soft side luggage. Though, as with any carrier it may be limited to a certain number of bags. We placed the larger, sturdier bags near the middle and filled in around the outer sides with soft side luggage, beach towels, pillows, jackets and other soft items. Pack it tight, the less voids you have inside result in less flapping, buffeting and wind noise. I might add that this carrier is Very Well made. Last August we drove through two severe Thunderstorms on the way to Upper Michigan and experienced NO LEAKAGE. I would not hesitate to but this carrier again. I am very satisfied.
