User questions & answers
Question: | Will this help drown out vocal noise |
Answer: | No, its probably easier to just leave your wife at home. I don't think you'll ever get her to be quiet if you try to spray her with this. |
Question: | What is the applied thickness |
Answer: | Can’t put it on too thick or it will drop off. I let the coats dry somewhat and sprayed until I used up all 3 cans. |
Question: | Will this stick to plastic |
Answer: | Boom Mat Spray can work on plastics, but the result will vary. Typically, it is recommended to roughen the surface in these situations prior to applying the spray. New plastics that are still off-gassing from the molding process can be problematic. |
Question: | Can i use this to help with noise caused by my mid tires |
Answer: | That’s what I used it for. Bought a new Prius and the tire noise was bad. It reduced the road noise a lot. Also as the tires got more used the noise also was reduced. |

User questions & answers
Question: | want to make a car quieter (wheel wells + under carriage). after how many cans or layers of this stuff will i reach the point of diminishing returns |
Answer: | From my use I have found that using more than 1 + 1/2 cans per 1 square foot (approximately) proved pretty much a waste. I would recommend coating the area evenly up to about a 1/4 inch think. If you wanna really get rid of the noise I suggest coating under the trunk mat avoiding the wire and electrical bits. |
Question: | Can I use this on the engine hood and parts near the engine where it gets hot |
Answer: | The manufacturer says it is good to 300 Fahrenheit. Your exhaust can potentially get higher than that but not likely. If you do use it in this capacity I would spray it to its thickness desired, let it dry 5-6 hrs and then top coat it with some high temp engine paint, color of your choosing. Try not to get any overspray on you exhaust headers. The stink will run a skunk out of the area... |
Question: | does it work on wheel wells? I have a 2018 prius and the tires are loud. I will also be putting this on in my garage..........thanks |
Answer: | Yes, this stuff works great to spray on wheel wells. I would strongly recommend against using this stuff in your garage as it inevitably makes a big mess and has a very strong petroleum/solvent smell to it. |
Question: | Does this work anywhere near as well as mats on doors around the speakers to make the sound better |
Answer: | In my experience this works well in conjunction with the mats and foam speaker baffles. Some older vehicle with little to no sound deadening in the doors, the boom mat spray can make a large difference by itself. Both for the audio and the quietness of the interior from road noise. I usually use one can per door. To allow good build up and good service from the product. I order by the case. |

User questions & answers
Question: | If I spray this under the doghouse in my rv, will there be fumes when the engine heats up on the road |
Answer: | depends on temperature. this product is combustible so I would not advise spraying it ANYWHERE near high heat or flames |
Question: | Would this work for the interior head liner |
Answer: | between the head liner and the sheet metal yeas as a sound proof material. |
Question: | could you use this on exhaust |
Answer: | Exhausts get rather hot so putting this on it would melt, that wouldn't be so good because I bet this is a rather harmful chemical. But you may be able to find something like this that is meant for hot objects. |
Question: | Can this be used under the hood of a vehicle for better sound deadening |
Answer: | Yes. You need to make sure and clean and prep under the hood before you paint. I used this to do the very same thing, and it worked great |

User questions & answers
Question: | Can you puddle this stuff up real thick to hide nasty rust areas and large weld repairs |
Answer: | Well, it goes on thick, like a bed liner and has rough appearance. You can hide welds, and rust, but not a filler. I hope this helps |
Question: | Is the delivery timely |
Answer: | Yes my came when they said it would |
Question: | Is this a "spray on" only or can it be applied with a brush |
Answer: | I sprayed it with an electric wagner power sprayer and that worked really well. |
Question: | Is this a sound deadener ? And can i spray soemtbing such as raptor liner over it ? Wanting to bed line my interiro so i can hose it out |
Answer: | Raptor liner is a water base ceramic heat and sound deadener. I used it on an interior floor and bed that was painted with POR15 and it didn't stick. It cracked and peeled and basically made a huge mess. Because its water based and in my opinion lacks adhesion I wouldn't recommend using it for anything. Go with multiple coats of bedliner and call it a day! |

HOW TO INSTALL
Please carefully read a service instruction up to the end. It is important to familiarize oneself with all the details as efficiency of soundproofing doesn't just depend on material you use but mainly is a result of correct installation. Please note that incorrect installation might lead to undesirable results or no effect at all.
STEP 1
Decide what part of a car you want to insulate in first place: floor, roof, doors, trunk or firewall. Treatment of each metal part of car has its unique contribution to overall effect. With that being said, we recommend to soundproof all metal parts for maximum performance. Next, find a service manual to your particular vehicle and locate a part that explains as to how to dismantle the trimming panels. You'd have to be carefull when taking them off and avoid breaking the fixing clips. That sort of information could be also found on a relevant automotive forums.
STEP2
Remove the remains of factory insulation once trimming is dismantled. You only need to do that if the factory insulation is damaged or not properly fixed. You can leave it there if it's still in a good shape. Next step is to properly clean, dry and degrease the prospective surface. Sound deadening won't adhere properly and may not last long if applied to wet or dirty surface. Use a degreaser and dry, clean rag for this purpose. We also recommend wearing gloves and to air a room from time to time during the work. * Pre-try a degreaser on a small spot before using that on plastic or painted parts.
STEP3
Once step 2 is complete, measure the prospective surface that you are going to treat. Quick tip is to first make a template of appropriate size on a paper and then transfer it to deadening mat. That will help to place it accurately and avoid wasting a material. Use a stationary knife or construction scissors to cut a desired shape and size. Be careful and use gloves for your hands protection.
STEP4
Next, place
- 🚗Car insulation foam is the best value for your money: 80 mil self-adhesive automotive butyl and foil sound deadening The thicker the material the more performance you get!
- 🚗80 mil and 36 sq ft is The Most Optimal size in the market of Noise Insulation: The optimal weight per 1 sq ft - 0.67 lb; Resistant to temperature fluctuations from -49 F to 212 F
- 🚗Sound Deadener is a vibration (sound) dampening mat. The material consists of an anti-drum noise absorption layer, combined with an aluminum top layer forming a heat and acoustic barrier. Automotive self-adhesive insulation consists of butyl. Odorless even in extreme weather conditions and very environmentally friendly.
- 🚗Become a master of installation at home: sound deadening mat is easy to install with a “peel and place” application. Simply trim the pieces to fit, peel and place and roll to ensure good adhesion. No messy spray-on paints or adhesives are needed to install this product.
- 🚗36 sqft Sound Deadener (9 x sheets at 800mm x 460mm x 2mm /Nominal thickness 80 mil,Nominal sheet size 31.5×18.1 inch) and 1pcs Car Sound Deadening Roller the box
- SOUND DEADENING SPRAY: Spectrum liquid sound dampening material is a high heat, water based viscoelastic polymer, formulated and tested by Second Skin to adhere to metal and stop it from vibrating. Stop the vibrations, stop the noise!
- CAR SOUND DEADENING & INSULATION: Used to dampen vibrations and stop thermal transfer on metal surfaces in all types of vehicles (cars, boats, trucks). Spectrum also works well on metal warehouse carts, sub-woofer boxes, and HVAC ducts. Spectrum works by stopping vibrations. It will NOT block or absorb airborne sound waves.
- ADVANTAGES OF LIQUID SPRAY: Spray Spectrum into hard to reach places that sound deadening mats have trouble, such as the undercarriage of the car and the wheel wells. Spectrum is temperature rated to 400 F, so you can even use it on the firewall!
- PAINT OR SPRAY ON SOUND DEADENING: Applied with a paint brush/roller or spray gun and air compressor. We recommend applying two layers of Spectrum Liquid Deadener to a total thickness of 2-3mm (thicker than a quarter). Max: 5mm

User questions & answers
Question: | I live in Arizona...Will this product help keep the internal temperature of the car lower during summer months, much like a windshield shade |
Answer: | This product does resist heat transfer and will help keep the heat out, but I wouldn't compare its effectiveness to a windshield shade (Probably much less effective? Have not tested one vs the other... good idea though!). Most people use it to resist heat transfer on a car's firewall or undercarriage. If I wanted to insulate a vehicle's roof, my first priority would be an insulating foam (like Second Skin's Mega Zorbe) or jute insulation (like Second Skin's Heat Wave Pro). You can combine with Spectrum for additional benefit, but one of those materials would be priority #1. |
Question: | How tuff is this product |
Answer: | Its pretty tough, we have it sprayed onto our sprinter van conversion floor, its holding up great. |
Question: | If I use this in my wheel well and it gets wet would that be a problem |
Answer: | Its water based but once it dries its waterproof. Just like water based paint, when dried it won't come off with water! |
Question: | I'm looking to apply this to the inside of a Jeep Wrangler roof. How will it apply to the fiberglass top |
Answer: | Spectrum needs a self etching fiber glass primer to bond to the fiber glass surface. Once the primer is cured Spectrum will bond very well, apply your (3) 1 mm coats to achieve recommended thickness. 30-60 minutes between coats above 50 degrees F. You can find this primer at your local paint or body shop, just ask for "self etching fiberglass primer for a water based acrylic polymer paint." |

Everything we sell has been tested in the field and in the lab to ensure you get the best possible results. We offer a comprehensive line of the best car insulation solutions for your vehicle. Whether you have rattling metal distorting your speakers, a car restoration side-gig, or just want to create a bubble of comfort for yourself as you drive down the highway, we have the high quality materials that will get you to your destination.
Why do cars make so much noise?
Noise inside the passenger compartment of a car comes from one of three sources:
- Wind Noise: Noise that enters through gaps, holes, and open windows.
- Structural Noise: Noise that is generated by vehicle mechanical systems and travels through the vehicle structure before radiating into the passenger compartment.
- Airborne Noise: Noise that is generated by vehicle systems or an external source and enters the passenger compartment by first traveling through air, then passing through a body panel, and finally reradiating into the passenger compartment.
To fix wind noise, you need to plug the holes. To stop structure borne noise, you have to damp the metal. To eliminate airborne noise, you need to block it with a noise barrier.
Quality materials matter. You’ll only make that mistake once.
Spectrum Liquid Sound Deadener is a water-based, viscoelastic polymer formulated by Second Skin Audio for top-of-the-line vibration damping and adhesion. The acrylic polymers in Spectrum have been selected to reduce sheet metal resonance, stick to just about anything, and meet transportation safety standards. Spectrum is odorless, rustproof, waterproof, flame resistant, chemical resistant, non-toxic, and dries with a seamless, black finish. Spectrum can be applied with a spray gun, brush, or roller. For large surfaces or hard to reach areas (like the undercarriage and inside the wheel wells), spraying on Spectrum can be much easier than applying sound deadening mats.
- Apply Spectrum in 1mm layers to a recommended total thickness of 2mm.
- Easy to clean up with water within 30 minutes. Do not get on clothes or upholstery.
- Spectrum is designed to adhere to metal, but will stick to just about any cleaned surface besides plastic or a high gloss surface without a primer.
- Wait 24-36 hours before reinstalling upholstery, and one week before covering Spectrum with a bed liner or painting it.
- Spectrum is not a bed liner and can be damaged by heavy impact.
- Do not freeze! If frozen, do not move or mix until it has completely thawed.

Decide
Decide what parts of the car you want to insulate first: roof, floor, doors, trunk, firewall, hood, wheel wells, or undercarriage. Insulating each part of the vehicle has its benefits. You likely need to do a little detective work to identify the noisiest parts of your car or truck. For the best results, you’ll need to soundproof all of your vehicle’s metal surfaces. Before installing any material though, step #1 is always to expose the sheet metal. For any metal surfaces behind plastic panels or upholstery, you’ll need to research how to remove them. Be careful to avoid breaking plastic trim parts or any fasteners. Detailed step-by-step guides can be found on our website or the one of the many automotive forums.
Remove
Remove all factory insulation to expose bare sheet metal. You can choose to mask off the insulation if it’s in good shape and you want to leave it. Ensure all debris, rust, and waxy oils are removed from the application surface. Clean the surface with denatured alcohol and a dry, clean rag. We do not recommend using a solvent or degreaser, as they can leave behind a film that will prevent the best bond from forming. Allow the metal to dry.
Prepare
Measure the cleaned surface to ensure you have enough Spectrum to cover the application area (1 gallon = 20 sq ft). Prep the surface for your chosen application method. The most effective way to apply Spectrum is to spray it on with a spray gun or airless sprayer. Before starting application, the panel should be masked off for overspray protection. If you use wire tape with plastic masking wrap, removing the plastic masking will be extremely easy and give you a clean cut edge. You don’t need to wear a paint mask, but it is recommended to spray in a well-ventilated area. If you’d rather paint or brush on your sound deadening, you can do that with a paint brush or roller.
Install
A primer is not needed except for plastic or high-gloss surfaces. You will need a spray gun designed to shoot a high viscosity, water-based acrylic polymer. Hook it up to a compressor with 50-80 PSI and a 6 gallon tank (reduce fill up time). Hold the spray gun 4 to 8 inches away from the panel and apply Spectrum with a slow, sweeping motion. The goal is a 1mm layer about as thick as a credit card. Always clean the spray gun immediately after applying a coat of Spectrum or it will cure in the gun. Allow 30 to 60 minutes between application layers, depending on temperature and humidity. We recommend 2mm of total thickness, but you can go up to 5mm.
Spectrum
Sound deadening is the hidden secret behind the upholstery of any car project. To reduce road noise, use Spectrum to stop the structural noise generated by vibrating metal. Stop the vibrations, stop the noise.
Sound Blocking
After you’ve damped the structural noise, stop airborne noise with a sound blocking layer covering the entire floor and inside the doors. Luxury Liner Pro has a high r-value and STC rating, making it an ideal insulating noise barrier for engine, exhaust, and road noise.
Sound Absorption
Further quiet things down inside your vehicle with sound absorption materials. Mega Zorbe has a high r-value, making it excellent for the car roof, and a high sound absorption coefficient to reduce interior echoes and improve acoustics in door cavities.

Question: | I saw an icon with sema name on the picture listed, what is this all about |
Answer: | Amazon offers a line of adapters: https://www.amazon.com/OPHIR-Airbrush-Adapter-Connector-Compressor/dp/B01I2TF6A4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1545781996&sr=8-2&keywords=badger+airbrush+adapter+fittings |
Question: | Does your deadener smell after installation? My shop ordered some different brand from this site and it smells even months later |
Answer: | If the gauge is toward you, the left-hand side should be the input and right the output. If you look just above where the gauge screws in, there should be a raised arrow indicating airflow direction. |
Question: | Hello, What is the temperature / heat range of Siless 80 mil |
Answer: | Honestly, it depends on your compressor. Small hobby compressors typically do not need a water trap at all because you're moving so little air. I use a large tank compressor with a 50 foot hose between it and my water trap and have never had it catch a drop because all the condensation is inside the tank, where the air cools. If you are using a large tank compressor you can use the trap close to the tank with no problems, but if it's a large tankless compressor, you'll need some distance to let the air cool. |
Question: | I know this is 18 sqft but is it 2'by9' or what is the width and lenght |
Answer: | Not that I am aware of. However, I use this on an air tank and not a full compressor. I do airbrush tats, so its pretty much use it for a few hours (5-8) during events and I probably wont use it again for a couple weeks or months in the off seasons. I haven't noticed it leaking out air, and my 11gal tank as thus far lasted all day when I regulate the PSI down to about 15-20 psi for my airbrush. My tank will leak out air on its own after a while (usually its empty after 48 hours) but the regulator is not connected when I store my tank. |
