Sharpie Fabric Paints are a type of fabric paint marker produced by Sharpie, a well-known brand in the stationery and art supplies industry. These markers are designed specifically for creating colorful and permanent designs on fabric surfaces. Here's what you should know about Sharpie Fabric Paints:

  1. Versatility: Sharpie Fabric Paints are versatile and can be used on a wide range of fabric materials, including cotton, polyester, canvas, and more. They work well on clothing, accessories, and fabric-based craft projects.

  2. Permanent Ink: These markers contain permanent, fade-resistant ink that adheres to fabric fibers, creating long-lasting designs. Once the ink dries and sets, it becomes resistant to washing and fading.

  3. Color Variety: Sharpie offers a variety of colors in their fabric paint marker range, allowing artists and crafters to create vibrant and colorful designs. The color selection may include both basic and bold shades.

  4. Fine Tip: Sharpie Fabric Paint markers typically have a fine tip, which is ideal for creating intricate and detailed designs on fabric surfaces. The fine tip allows for precision when drawing or writing.

  5. Easy to Use: Using Sharpie Fabric Paints is straightforward. Simply shake the marker, depress the tip to start the ink flow, and then apply it to the fabric surface. The markers are designed for ease of use, making them suitable for both beginners and experienced artists.

  6. Drying Time: The ink generally dries quickly, but the exact drying time may vary depending on factors like fabric type and environmental conditions. After applying the paint, it's advisable to let it air dry for a few hours before wearing or washing the fabric.

  7. Heat Setting: To ensure the permanence of the design, it's recommended to heat-set the painted fabric. This can be done by ironing the fabric on the reverse side or following the instructions provided by Sharpie on the product packaging.

  8. Washable: Once properly set, Sharpie Fabric Paint designs are usually resistant to washing. You can typically machine wash fabric items decorated with these markers without the designs fading or washing out.

  9. Craft and DIY Projects: Sharpie Fabric Paints are commonly used in various DIY and craft projects, such as customizing t-shirts, bags, hats, and home decor items. They offer a convenient way to add personalization and creativity to fabric-based items.

  10. Storage: To prolong the life of Sharpie Fabric Paint markers, store them horizontally and replace the cap securely after each use to prevent the ink from drying out.

Remember that it's essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions and recommendations for the best results when using Sharpie Fabric Paints. These markers can provide a fun and creative way to personalize your fabric items and express your artistic flair.

User questions & answers

Question: will these work to cover metal
Answer: Depends how dark the metal is, I used them to paint white coffee mugs and they worked great. I have the pink, green, blue colors. So they are diff than what's in that pic metallic, red, black etc. sorry I can't help more. I'd think you'd be fine but not 100%
Question: Do these dry really fast on glass and if you mess up can you scrape off the color. Also could I coat with laquer
Answer: They do not come off easily but if you put hand sanitizer it will come off. At least on my plastic otter box case.
Question: do these work on mug? I'm wanting to make some custom mugs for christmas and I've heard that regular sharpies don't work for that. thx
Answer: I haven't tried these for mugs. I have tried regular Sharpie and it did not work; it washed off in the dishwasher. I bought these to use on the desks in my classroom, to write the kids' names on them.
Question: Would these work on acrylic/plastic? I want to decorate an "unbreakable" wine glass. Thanks
Answer: I tried writing our name on the bottom of an acylic plastic cup that we take to church dinners, etc., and it wrote well and dried well. However the ink coloring wasn't as dark as I would have liked. My cup was a green color, though. If you have frosted finish or clear glasses, you may be very pleased. Hope this helps!

User questions & answers

Question: I want to mark closed cell black foam rubber for cutting. Many say line not that thin. how wide is line if you don't bear down
Answer: I just drew a line on a piece of paper; without bearing down. The line I created with a new pen is quite thin. Slightly less than 1mm in width.
Question: Are these permanent on glass? I'm looking for markers for people to sign anniversary bottles for a wedding and I don't want it to wash off easily
Answer: I used them on mason jars, aluminum and ceramic miniatures. Once dry, it stayed perfectly! Also, when I washed my aluminum jar tops after writing on them with the markers it stayed on.
Question: I want to use these for people to sign vinyl records as a guest book. Will they show up? Will they smudge
Answer: They should show up great! But in not sure about the smudging. I'd find a cheap vinyl and test it out.
Question: I need an ink that dries instantly. Will this do the trick
Answer: I have never had the metallic, nor the black Sharpie, smear on either my print book paper or my glossy marketing materials, such as book marks or headshots. It dries in seconds.

User questions & answers

Question: Can i use it on silicone
Answer: I don't know. I'm using it for rock painting.
Question: I want to use these to write on glass mugs without putting a sealant over it... will they wash off if they go through water with sanitizer in it
Answer: Probably. If not immediately, it will over time.
Question: I paint landscapes with poems written on them. Using a brush is a long and tedious process. Would these be comparable in paint quality
Answer: I have a lot of experience with hand lettering. I have used both a paintbrush and pens. You just can’t get the same results as a brush. If you’re doing large block letters, you can outline with a pen and fill it in with paint. If your doing small rigid looking letters then you can use a fine tip marker. If your doing a delicate cursive type then you should always go for a paintbrush.
Question: Will these work for garden Markers, most sharpies fade in the sun has anyone had any experience with this? Please do not reply if you don't know thank
Answer: I used them for wooden garden stakes. The markers dried up sooner than expected on both raw and painted wood. They did not fade in the sun. The wooden stake broke down before the writing faded.

User questions & answers

Question: Do you ship to Canada
Answer: Hello,Yes, we can ship to Canada. Thanks
Question: Can these pens be used on canvas? I think they might work for outlining small branches, etc. when I'm oil painting. Thanks
Answer: I'm not sure but I've used them on plastic and wood so my guess is they would work on a gessoed canvas or even on top of dried oil paint.
Question: What is the difference between oil based and water based
Answer: Sharpie Water-Based Paint Marker can be washed off the material. Recommended surface types are paper, fabric and glass window. Sharpie Oil-Based Paint Marker resists water damage, fading and abrasion. It works on virtually any surface like metal, pottery, wood, rubber, glass, plastic and stone.
Question: HOw to the tip sizes compare to regular Sharpie markers. Are the fine and medium comparable to the standard Sharpies I have at home
Answer: No they are not quite comparable. The medium point is the size of a worn down sharpie, and the fine is similar to a the thin line made when lightly pressing a fresh marker sharpie. Neither one is as fine as a hard tip fine point sharpie. Hope this helps.

User questions & answers

Question: Will this do good on mailbox
Answer: This Oil-Based Paint Marker works best on metal, pottery, wood, rubber, glass, plastic and stone. It resists water damage, fading and abrasion.
Question: Will this work well on fabric? I need a white marker for my graduation cap
Answer: Yes, the Sharpie oil based marker writes on any surface, including fabric. We use it in our fire department to mark on all kinds of surfaces -- i.e. metal, plastic, fabric, concrete, wood, rubber, etc. -- and it marks on anything. NOTE: it also comes in the colors of red, yellow, blue, black, and white.
Question: Nursing home is forever losing my husband's clothing. Will this wash out
Answer: I am not sure 100%, but I was told these can be used on dishes and cups and baked. So I am going to assume you will be fine even after his clothing being washed and dried. Worth a try!
Question: Would this be suitable for use with stencils, to write on black polyamide rain jackets? Also, is the odor strong/long lasting? Thanks
Answer: The odor was strong but not long lasting. I wrote on 20 student desks and my classroom was a little stinky while I was doing it but seemed fine once it was dry and definitely by the next day. I would think it would write on the jackets great and look nice but it won't be permanent. It rubs/scratches off and with wear and tear is will fade. Depending on how long you need your jackets labeled I think it would be a great choice. I was able to write 20 student names on desks with just one marker and still had ink left over.

User questions & answers

Question: How well do these markers show up on black canvas fabric
Answer: My disabled adult son does this art work as part of his therapy but the stenciled sheets are white where he colors and I always need extra markers than those that come with the kit. These markers worked great...as do those new Sharpie pens that do not bleed thru paper! But dont know about black canvas, sorry.
Question: Is there a smell when using these markers
Answer: no, just a marker smell as usual
Question: how quickly do they run out of ink
Answer: I used them for about 10 hours total and the only one that ran out of ink quickly was the black one. 5 hours into their use the black one was half full. Also the tip wears down depending how hard you press so keep it light.
Question: do they bleed
Answer: They sometimes bleed if you use 2 colors beside each other before it dries. I use the sharpies with watered down acrylics as well, and again, if my acrylic area is not dry, the sharpie will bleed into that area. If your work area is completely dry, they don't bleed. Definitely protect whatever surface you are working on though. Hope this helps. Downside of these, they run out of ink pretty quick.

User questions & answers

Question: Can this be used to fill scratches on a mirror backing
Answer: Never tried it. I deliver mail for a living and used this marker to write numbers on the mailboxes and that was about 8 months ago and the numbers are still on the box through all kinds of weather
Question: Color codes for wheels are shakey. will this work for curb rash on a 2015 honda accord hybrid
Answer: Its possible..but i would try a very small section out of sight or as close to out of sight first for color confirmation. Basically try it but remember its pretty much permanent. Also you can gloss it to add even more luster to it. Good luck.
Question: How many CCs of ink are contained in a single marker
Answer: 2.4 oz of ink in each pen.
Question: Does it work good on wood
Answer: This would depend on whether the wood is raw/natural (in which case there may be "bleeding" to some degree depending on the type of wood and its grain0 or finished/varnished (in which case should be fine). Some raw woods and their grain are more absorbent and may run or bleed a bit. If the wood is already finished/varnished, should be fine (but will still smear until dry), and the legibility will depend on the darkness of the underlying stain. I've used them on baseball bats for autographs and have been fine as long as you let them dry adequately to be sure they do not smear.
