Their professional line is called Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolours, and they cost much more than Cotman watercolour sets. For example, the Winsor & Newton Cotman field kit of 12 colours costs approximately $50, whereas the Winsor & Newton Professional Artist's field kit of 12 colours would run approximately $100 or more. I've been a visual artist/creative professional for nearly twenty years, and I've been using Winsor & Newton products (as well as several other brands) for even longer. The Cotman watercolour line, while being a student grade line, is still very good quality; in fact, there are some professional artists who use Cotman (I've seen portraitists and botanical artists who choose Cotman specifically because it handles well with the way they work), while many others prefer the dense pigmentation of the Professional line. It's all a matter of personal taste and your preferred method of working. In my opinion, this Cotman set would make a fine addition to any artist's media stash. Tip: to get the most vibrancy of your pan colours, spritz them with a little water (or put a small drop of water on the pan colour/s you'd like to use), and let it sit for a moment to moisten and activate. Answer:	I have traveled across the world with this and kept it in a small ziplock baggie, and even when the colors are a bit moist there is no leaking into the bag that I've experienced.

Answer:	I have the 48 half pan set and I have had this palette for three years and It has lasted me! You can buy cartridges to replace the colors instead of a whole new palette. I love this palette! I have half pans that are lasting me forever and I paint every day! And these are full pans so they really will last you! I highly recommend these!
Question:	Are the Artist's watercolors the same as Professional or the same as Cotman
Answer:	I have looked for them but can't find them anywhere. What I'm going to do is use Aleenes repositional glue and glue the pans in. You can get pans the cheapest on eBay. With the glue you can make glue balls that holds well, but is not permanent. I think this will work.

Answer:	I've read (on Winsor Newton's info page) that you cannot refill half pans with Winsor Newton watercolor tube paints, as they are formulated differently and will not work well when completely dry. However, Daniel Smith and Holbein watercolors can be used to refill your half pans. M. Graham also works well though they take a long time to dry in a pan because they have honey in them.

Answer:	The "secret" to this, as I recall, is to slowly add a dollop or small layer of the tube color into the pan (or over a little remaining paint in the pan. Let that dry, add some more, let that dry, add a little more etc....This way you get succeeding little dried layers to add a little more over...hope that makes sense. Regards.

Answer:	i believe the cotman brand implies the paint is more of a student/hobbyist paint. i think this product ( http://www.amazon.com/Winsor-amp-Newton-Artists-Compact/dp/B000N85WVQ/ref=pd_sbs_hg_7 ) has the paint you are looking for, though i prefer the carrying case that you asked about here, that holds the cotman paints. i mix the artist grade paint and the cotman paint all the time and really get good results from both, if that matters to you.

However, some artists will not use black in a painting but rather mix a color (maybe using a blue and a brown for example) that gives the impression of black or an absence of light. This is because true black rarely occurs in nature and is more suited to non-realistic styles of art. But to each their own; there is no wrong way to paint!

Answer:	The brush is approximately a #6 and 4.5" long. I am getting one of the store-in-the-handle ones because I personally prefer a longer handle. The one it comes with is of good quality. So if you are comfortable with a short brush you will be fine. Best of luck.

Answer:	'Cotman' is Windsor & Newton's brand name for their student grade watercolors. Their professional watercolors are called "Artist". That said, Cotman paints are excellent quality, better than one might expect for something with the 'student' label.

Answer:	The trays were sealed when the kit arrived. I assume that is what you mean? After removing the original seal, and once the kit is completely closed, the paints are sealed inside the kit. This is a great travel palette and the paints, when moistened, turn to a buttery consistency. I highly recommend this product.
