User questions & answers

Question: can I color over these with alcohol based markers such as Copic? Will they bleed
Answer: Yes, they do bleed about 20% even with marker paper or any kind of paper. Even after waiting 2 full minutes to dry. Whereas uni-pin is copic proof after 10 seconds, and this pen performs better, and kuretake 60 is copic proof after 12 seconds. Even a cheap gel pen is copic proof within 10 seconds. These microns will definitely bleed with copics which is why i don’t use them for professional manga/comic work.
Question: are all of these pens black in this set
Answer: From what I recall about this particular brand, it was the type that had literally so many different sizes and types of tips in even just -one- color, it was almost impossible to buy a set with a signifigent amount of colors in different shades without the price being practically obscene. Don't get me wrong- they have been, in my own experience, they've totally been worth it. But maybe I'm just OCD ( or, the newer politically correct term, "A Completest" ) - but I get frustrated when I have to buy my pens a couple at a time, until I realize I *have* to have a certain color ... considering how much I remember spending on these suckers, this is actually a pretty great idea, since you know you're -always- gonna need "black" (just gotta hope it's the right *shade* , or at least capable of creating it 樂
Question: Are these the same ones as those recommended and sold by the Zentangle inventors? If so, what is the brush for? The ink dries too quickly to brush
Answer: Yes it is,the one specify by the inventors is the 001 (0.25mm) .the brush is to have fluent strokes as if you were using an ancient pen
Question: Will this bleed and use on top of watercolor paint art
Answer: I use these pens a lot with watercolor. But I typically put the ink down first, wait 10 minutes while working on another drawing, then come back and watercolor over the ink. You made me curious, so I tested it on a very wet paper: yes, they bleed a little if you go straight into a very wet patch. I don't think they are meant for that, I've been very happy with these liners.

User questions & answers

Question: What is clam ink
Answer: Honestly, I think clam ink just means the pens come in a clamshell plastic case. It is what they are shipped in and it opens like a clam...they also have a set of 3 pens that come in a plastic "bubble" type packaging. One that is glued down to the cardboard, you know? But, look at the pens specifically for Zentangle and it says clamshell packaging, not clam ink pens. But, in my true and honest opinion, these are the best pens for drawing, doodling, sketching, whatever...even just writing. They do not bleed through the paper, to the other side or another piece, they do not fade, they do not move off the paper and smear once dry...these are just the best pens. Also, I believe they are archival quality, which means they are acid free, so you could use them in scrapbooking and other things. TRY them! You will not be disappointed...and this is the best price I have found for 6 different sized black ink pens of this quality...Fantastic! I hope this answered your question.
Question: Can these pens write on plastic? I want to mark pips on minature dice
Answer: Microns are designed to write on paper only, although some crafters do use them on other surfaces, based on their personal testing and use. A better choice for the dice might bethe Sakura Identipen or Microperm pens, which have ink that is designed to work on non-porous surfaces.
Question: can i paint over my pigma micron black illustration, to fill in some areas. They already seemed to smear a bit
Answer: Hi, I have this set and I just did a bleed test for mine. I work mainly with watercolors. I tested on Strathmore Cold Press 140 lb paper with a wait time of 5 minutes between inking the sample and painting. I had no bleeding at all even with two heavy wet coats of paint. I hope this this helps :)
Question: all of the bad reviews say stuff about the pens leaking, even though there are like 30x better reviews, I'm now worried if I order them they wont work
Answer: We've bought about 20 of these in the last couple years and have had about half start leaking ink from the barrel. We live at 5,000' above sea level and we're pretty sure this is the reason. They appear to leak faster when taken up and down from our altitude. Looking for another pen of the same quality that can handle the slight change in pressure. We do love these pens but they don't seem to be well made enough to deal with the pressure.

The Micron 003 (0.15mm), 005 (0.20mm) & the 01 (0.25mm) are extremely fine nibs and require no more pressure to write than the weight of the pen itself. If more writing pressure is applied, the nib could bend, disrupt the ink flow and affect the performance of the pen. Consumers who write with heavier pressure should consider a slightly larger point size, like a Micron 05 (0.45mm tip).

Archival PIGMA Ink

Invented by Sakura in 1982, continues to be the most reliable in on the market today. Pigma ink benefits:

- Waterproof.

- Pigment based ink using single color pigments.

- Fade Resistant.

- No smears or feathers on most papers.

- Ink dries to pH neutral.

PIGMA Pigment Based Ink Performance

Pigment Molecules are 100 times bigger and more chemically complex than dye molecules allowing it to stay within the top layer of the paper rather than absorbing through the paper causing bleed-thru.

Pigment Versus Dye Ink

The larger and more chemically complex molecules inherently makes them longer lasting; therefore, less susceptible to UV rays, chemical degradation and pollution from contact with oils.

User questions & answers

Question: How would these hold up applied to a canvas over arcylic paint? Would the color be faded or smudged
Answer: Some of them yes
Question: Do these pens have a way to buy refills
Answer: Yes, you definitely can use power bait eggs with these hooks. I would recommend using the #6 baitholder hooks or the #4 red octopus hooks. These are the smallest in the hook kit for more stealth with power bait eggs, but sport a big enough gap for a decent hook set. Personally, I recommend using the dough/putty style power bait. This way you can ball it up covering the hook entirely, then upon disintegration the bait is soft enough for a clean hook set. Thanks for asking! - Ed Hitchcock, Owner of Tailored Tackle
Question: Can you use these on a stretched canvas
Answer: It was a wide range, order came fast
Question: Does the 3 pack come with the fine tip, med. tip, and bold tip? Or just three of one
Answer: Not really more like an octopus hook
