User questions & answers

Question: What is clam ink
Answer: Honestly, I think clam ink just means the pens come in a clamshell plastic case. It is what they are shipped in and it opens like a clam...they also have a set of 3 pens that come in a plastic "bubble" type packaging. One that is glued down to the cardboard, you know? But, look at the pens specifically for Zentangle and it says clamshell packaging, not clam ink pens. But, in my true and honest opinion, these are the best pens for drawing, doodling, sketching, whatever...even just writing. They do not bleed through the paper, to the other side or another piece, they do not fade, they do not move off the paper and smear once dry...these are just the best pens. Also, I believe they are archival quality, which means they are acid free, so you could use them in scrapbooking and other things. TRY them! You will not be disappointed...and this is the best price I have found for 6 different sized black ink pens of this quality...Fantastic! I hope this answered your question.
Question: Can these pens write on plastic? I want to mark pips on minature dice
Answer: Microns are designed to write on paper only, although some crafters do use them on other surfaces, based on their personal testing and use. A better choice for the dice might bethe Sakura Identipen or Microperm pens, which have ink that is designed to work on non-porous surfaces.
Question: can i paint over my pigma micron black illustration, to fill in some areas. They already seemed to smear a bit
Answer: Hi, I have this set and I just did a bleed test for mine. I work mainly with watercolors. I tested on Strathmore Cold Press 140 lb paper with a wait time of 5 minutes between inking the sample and painting. I had no bleeding at all even with two heavy wet coats of paint. I hope this this helps :)
Question: all of the bad reviews say stuff about the pens leaking, even though there are like 30x better reviews, I'm now worried if I order them they wont work
Answer: We've bought about 20 of these in the last couple years and have had about half start leaking ink from the barrel. We live at 5,000' above sea level and we're pretty sure this is the reason. They appear to leak faster when taken up and down from our altitude. Looking for another pen of the same quality that can handle the slight change in pressure. We do love these pens but they don't seem to be well made enough to deal with the pressure.

User questions & answers

Question: can I color over these with alcohol based markers such as Copic? Will they bleed
Answer: Yes, they do bleed about 20% even with marker paper or any kind of paper. Even after waiting 2 full minutes to dry. Whereas uni-pin is copic proof after 10 seconds, and this pen performs better, and kuretake 60 is copic proof after 12 seconds. Even a cheap gel pen is copic proof within 10 seconds. These microns will definitely bleed with copics which is why i don’t use them for professional manga/comic work.
Question: are all of these pens black in this set
Answer: From what I recall about this particular brand, it was the type that had literally so many different sizes and types of tips in even just -one- color, it was almost impossible to buy a set with a signifigent amount of colors in different shades without the price being practically obscene. Don't get me wrong- they have been, in my own experience, they've totally been worth it. But maybe I'm just OCD ( or, the newer politically correct term, "A Completest" ) - but I get frustrated when I have to buy my pens a couple at a time, until I realize I *have* to have a certain color ... considering how much I remember spending on these suckers, this is actually a pretty great idea, since you know you're -always- gonna need "black" (just gotta hope it's the right *shade* , or at least capable of creating it 樂
Question: Are these the same ones as those recommended and sold by the Zentangle inventors? If so, what is the brush for? The ink dries too quickly to brush
Answer: Yes it is,the one specify by the inventors is the 001 (0.25mm) .the brush is to have fluent strokes as if you were using an ancient pen
Question: Will this bleed and use on top of watercolor paint art
Answer: I use these pens a lot with watercolor. But I typically put the ink down first, wait 10 minutes while working on another drawing, then come back and watercolor over the ink. You made me curious, so I tested it on a very wet paper: yes, they bleed a little if you go straight into a very wet patch. I don't think they are meant for that, I've been very happy with these liners.

User questions & answers

Question: Can I use these pens to write my school notes? Or will they bleed through notebook paper
Answer: There are a number of factors to weigh in - how long you leave them uncapped while using them, how hard you press, and how much ink you use per session. I use these everyday since I draw for a movie theater - with intensive use I seem to go through them at a decent pace around 3-4 months. If you don’t use them as often I would assume around 6 months.
Question: Can these be used on canvas
Answer: Hi Roy. Most brands use a cap that damages the tip when securing it becuase it has hinges inside. This new cap does not have those hinges so the tip stays untouched and undamaged for a long time. The new cap also closes better so your marker does not spill.
Question: Does the ink smear? I'm wondering if these are good for a left-handed writer
Answer: Hi Lisa.Chalk markers wont erase well from chalk paint because chalk paint isnt non porous. We do not recommend using our marker on this surface if you want to erase the ink later on. You can use it on any other non porous surface though with total security...
Question: Does the ink bleed through the pages of a bible
Answer: Box says 6 MM

User questions & answers

Question: Would this be a good marker for labeling kids' plastic pools toys, like toy boats, diving sticks, etc
Answer: The only thing I use it for is as a CD/DVD marker when I burn backups or make mixes for the car player. It's great for that but I don't know how it would work as far as water is concerned.
Question: Is it acid free? I need this for photographs
Answer: Acid-free is a term used for paper, so you should check your photo paper if it contains lignins. The Identi-Pen does not contain archival inks as it is dye-based, which means over time if exposed to sunlight, the marks can fade. Our Pigma ink line of pens uses archival inks however, some of them may not write on photo paper. Also, our Permapaque line has archival ink that can write on photo paper.
Question: Could i use this pen to permanently write on a piece of pottery
Answer: I use it to write on unglazed clay pots and other unglazed ceramics.
Question: Will this hold up on a glossy label left in the shower on a bath product? I used a sharpie but that's fading now that it's gotten wet several times
Answer: The ink is not water soluble, but it can be rubbed off, or the label itself may disintegrate. I have used this pen to label water bottles and coffee mugs, and it always rubs off after a while. My recommendation is to put a piece of clear tape over your writing, or clear nail polish.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this a pen
Answer: The size of the eye varies with the size of the hook. The larger the hook size, the larger the eye. To me, the eyes are sized appropriate to the diameter of leader that is normally used.
Question: Will these pens smear on vellum? I will be using for a timed drafting exam and i need something that will dry very quickly. Thanks
Answer: First, you should always release fish properly, if this is not possible these hooks will eventually rust in salt water. Not sure in fresh water.
Question: are these acid free
Answer: Most tournaments do not allow stainless hooks due to the fact that they will not rust away and will be stuck in a fish forever if your line breaks
Question: Will this bleed through Canson mix media paper and does it ink well
Answer: It lines up. Not an offset hook.
