Answer:	The actual space is about 2 and 1/4 inches. It will fit 6 beads but I think the pen shaft should have been a bit thicker. The beads fit kind of wonky on it. Too loose. And smaller hole beads won't fit on the shaft. I have found better ones at Goody Beads but they are more expensive.
