14 best oil pen

An oil pen, also known as an oil-based marker, is a type of drawing tool used in various artistic and creative applications. These pens are designed for artists, illustrators, and crafters who want to achieve bold, vibrant lines and colors in their work. Here are some key characteristics and information about oil pens:

  1. Ink Type: Oil pens use oil-based ink, which is different from the water-based ink found in most markers. This oil-based ink provides several advantages, including better coverage, resistance to water and fading, and a smoother application.

  2. Vibrant Colors: Oil pens are known for their rich and vibrant colors. They often come in a wide range of shades, including bright and intense hues, making them suitable for various art projects.

  3. Versatility: Oil pens can be used on a variety of surfaces, including paper, cardboard, wood, glass, metal, plastic, and fabric. This versatility allows artists to experiment with different mediums and create artwork on various materials.

  4. Opacity: Oil-based ink is typically more opaque than water-based ink, which means that it can cover existing lines and colors more effectively. This opacity is advantageous when working on projects that require layering or corrections.

  5. Drying Time: Oil pens generally have a longer drying time compared to water-based markers. This extended drying time allows artists to blend colors and create gradients more easily.

  6. Nib Types: Oil pens come with different nib types, such as fine tips for precise details and broad tips for filling in larger areas. Some oil pens also have brush tips, which provide a brush-like stroke for calligraphy and broad, expressive strokes.

  7. Permanent: Oil-based ink is often permanent and resistant to smudging once it dries. This quality makes oil pens suitable for projects that require long-lasting and archival-quality results.

  8. Use Cases: Oil pens are commonly used for various artistic endeavors, including illustration, graffiti art, sign making, craft projects, and more. They are also favored by artists who work on non-traditional surfaces or want to add colorful details to their paintings or drawings.

  9. Storage: To maintain the performance of oil pens, it's essential to store them horizontally to prevent the ink from settling or drying out unevenly.

Oil pens offer a versatile and dynamic medium for artists and crafters looking to add bold and colorful details to their projects. With their vibrant colors, versatility, and ability to work on various surfaces, they have become a popular choice for both professional artists and hobbyists alike.

User questions & answers

Question: I have a crkt homefront, it has teflon inner washers, metal blade, & a polymer type innards, is this oil safe for this knife's aformentioned materal
Answer: 14-Channels 18-Input
Question: How does this compare to kpl or maybe blue lube
Answer: They will work as they are powered with there own Amp, so you can run the PA line output to them. Other wise you will need an amplifier for any speakers you want to run with this PA head.
Question: Does this work well for router bearings
Answer: the USB connection is on the back of the unit. It is controlled by the mains only. Not a good design in my opinion. They should be assignable to a channel. It would be better if it did. your better off just plugging in your computer into a channel of your choosing that way you have control over that channel and can leave the mains alone.......unless your talking about the external USB audio thing that comes with it. In that case then ya you can separate the channels. I use it all the time. works great. good sound also. better than your headphone jack.
Question: is this pen refillable, as stated by reviewer
Answer: Well it may not work with Xbox

User questions & answers

Question: will these work to cover metal
Answer: Depends how dark the metal is, I used them to paint white coffee mugs and they worked great. I have the pink, green, blue colors. So they are diff than what's in that pic metallic, red, black etc. sorry I can't help more. I'd think you'd be fine but not 100%
Question: Do these dry really fast on glass and if you mess up can you scrape off the color. Also could I coat with laquer
Answer: They do not come off easily but if you put hand sanitizer it will come off. At least on my plastic otter box case.
Question: do these work on mug? I'm wanting to make some custom mugs for christmas and I've heard that regular sharpies don't work for that. thx
Answer: I haven't tried these for mugs. I have tried regular Sharpie and it did not work; it washed off in the dishwasher. I bought these to use on the desks in my classroom, to write the kids' names on them.
Question: Would these work on acrylic/plastic? I want to decorate an "unbreakable" wine glass. Thanks
Answer: I tried writing our name on the bottom of an acylic plastic cup that we take to church dinners, etc., and it wrote well and dried well. However the ink coloring wasn't as dark as I would have liked. My cup was a green color, though. If you have frosted finish or clear glasses, you may be very pleased. Hope this helps!

User questions & answers

Question: are these oil based markers
Answer: Depends on your personal requirements. If you use your tool for hard work, in a dirty, dusty environment. Then use tuf-glide dry film lubricant so that it won't get all gummed up from dust and dirt getting stuck in the lubricant. If you use your tool in a clean environment and say you are looking for the smoothest action on a pocket folding knife, then use blu-lube sparingly on the pivot/bearings. Personally I use both on my pocket knives. After I service/sharpen my folders, I will give the entire tool a bath in tuf glide. Handle and all. It will provide a coating over all surfaces that lubricates and prevents corrosion/debris buildup due to sticky moist lubricant. But then I will also apply a single drop of blu-lube to the bearing/pivot to give it that supper smooth action that we all love. Of course I make sure to clean off all excess blu-lube so that it will attract as little dust as possible.
Question: Is this a acmi approved product? safe for children with a ap seal
Answer: I believe it would.
Question: I received an empty envelope. Extremely frustrated that I have not yet had a reply to my review or emails to seller. Requesting replacement
Answer: Yes indeed, if you're intending to refill buy the largest bottle of tuf glideavailable. The liquid inside is identical only difference being that it doesn't have a needle applicator. To refill: 1) Remove the cap. 2) Remove the needle 3) Refill 4) Reattach the needle, and you're all set.In order to remove the needle applicator uncap the pen. You will see knurling at the base of the needle applicator, grip this knurling and unscrew counter clockwise. From here you can refill it and reattach the applicator by screwing it on clockwise. -Hope this helps
Question: Do you think these would hold up in the sun on garden markers? Would they smear
Answer: .you have input and output for both speakers and Mic's.

User questions & answers

Question: how do you fill this applicator with oil
Answer: They will definitely hold up. You do have to let it dry for a few minutes--it's oil paint, after all. But once it is dry, it won't smear and it will last.
Question: applicator has no oil how and where do you fill? What type of oil do you use
Answer: I can tell you it's safe. I use it a Microtech butterfly knife that has brass and Teflon washers and it works perfectly. Be dB collecting tactical folders for over 20 years and I've experimented with many lubricants. Double Acton out the front autos can be temperamental due to tight workings and double sets of springs to both open and close the knife. Tuf Glide is the best lubricant I've found that works on everything. It never gums up or gets thick in those knives I mentioned. Just like with guns you don't want a knife to fail to work (open in this case) when you really need it. I carry a knife for protection and rely on this lubricant to keep my knife in prefect condition and or does. No they don't give me free samples and I don't work for them. I just like to stand behind a product that doesn't let me down. Sorry for the long post. I know I'm wordy.

User questions & answers

Question: I am trying to label a few different plastic containers for travel. How "permanent" is this gonna be on a Nalgene travel bottle
Answer: I think in China but I was so impressed with the quality I ordered a second one. I have decided to keep it upright like a ball point pen. It has o-rings to seal it but I intend to put some light bodied synthetic amsoil in one and a fine oil like hair clipper oil for lubing small equipment. If you have a workbench you can make a slot to keep it upright in case it might leak some oil.
Question: Any artists use these on primed canvas or wood prior to painting
Answer: It would depend upon the liquid you want to use (FDA rated as food safe) and the actual intended use. The tool is just a tool.
Question: Are these good for garden markers and not fade, like the markers made for "garden
Answer: The top section above the clip on the cover unscrews counterclockwise. Pressing down on the plunger will release a drop of oil. After every 10 or so drops you may need to open the top to let in some air so it will continue to release the oil.
Question: Will this work on fabric
Answer: I use this oil my industrial sewing machines. You must put the type of oil you want to use. It has a reservoir at the top, you must uncap the the plunger top. Midway down you turn to uncap where the very thin like device to oil is located use plunger on top to place drop of oil.

User questions & answers

Question: I'm making a fake chalkboard wall with white writing... will these work
Answer: Yes they do
Question: Do these markers work on vinyl fabric
Answer: I used them to make a "fairy box" for my niece to put stones in from Twig (the fairy at the Renaissance Festival). I painted a wood box a royal blue color (so not super dark but dark enough, it was leftover paint from a bedroom). The Orange, Green, and Pink showed up wonderfully on it, the purple is the only color that is hard to see. So, in answer to your question, and from my experience, yes the light color inks showed up on the darker surface. The darker did not as well. If I could attach a picture I would :)
Question: Can you use it more than once? In other words, does the tip dry out and become unusable? Like a spray can of pain if you did not clear/clean it? Thank
Answer: Alcohol takes it off easily if you use 91% you can use regular rubbing Alcohol too, you may have to rub a little longer with it.
Question: Do these produce fumes? Is there a strong chemical odor when using them
Answer: I haven't tried these for mugs. I have tried regular Sharpie and it did not work; it washed off in the dishwasher. I bought these to use on the desks in my classroom, to write the kids' names on them.

User questions & answers

Question: Is this good to fix small scratches on a White wood table
Answer: Yes. I use them to ID plastic tool cases and also canvas and vinyl parts bags.
Question: Which country is this pen made in
Answer: I have this pen in silver, gold, black, red, and white. All colors but white work like a dream. They have not dried up, do not clog. They have been used over and over. The paint dries very quickly (at least on paper). But the white one hasn't worked since we got it. I shook it, primed it, but the paint comes out clear - like the white separated from the other ingredients and stayed in the pen. Weird.
Question: Would this work on water bottles
Answer: No fumes :)
Question: Will these work on wood? I am having a guest board at my wedding and need something that won’t smudge for people to sign with
Answer: I’m afraid they would bleed a great deal. They tend to bleed on wood, so I’m fairly sure fabric would present a larger challenge in this respect.

User questions & answers

Question: Can you use on skin
Answer: Vietnam
Question: Would the White market be seen on a black hate? For like signatures
Answer: I used it to write my initials on my metal water canteen and it does an ok job making dots and easy letters on plastic bottle caps, not the smoother plastic bottle itself, however. It also wears down after some time but it lasts a good while.
Question: How many mm is the extra-fine tip
Answer: No guarantees - found them to be pretty messy and as far as "precision" writing, for-getta-bout it with these. Have to shake the heck out of them, to get them to flow, and then they seem to start flowing, when you'd least expect. I'd look for another alternative for a wedding, & / or in the future. IMHO
Question: Will this work on watercolor
Answer: Yes, definitely. It should do a good job of that.

User questions & answers

Question: Can these be used for fine details on oil paintings
Answer: On a black *HAT*? Yes, if the material of the hat is hard and non-porous, or a VERY tight weave of fabric. The paint takes a bit of time to dry though, so it could smear easily if you passed the hat around and users weren't careful.
Question: How much does each market contain
Answer: I believe it usually is a .3mm tip. Very fine indeed.
Question: I purchased these to use as whiteout on paper, it covers for a second than the ink appears again. Did I get bad ones
Answer: The oil based paint will cover dried water based paint id you can get the Extra fine point to deliver paint. My pen ended up falling apart at the tip, so I never used it. I discarded it and never replaced it, or reported it to Amazon.
Question: will this work on black construction paper? will i be able to see it
Answer: I would put some on a cloth & test it & apply to a piece of wood, to see what you think. Pretty sure it will stick, but remember this is a bright white, so may not match older paint.....
