Question:	Is this smooth enough to write on with a paint marker
Answer:	It seems a lot of people prefer latex paint for wood signs. They recommend "flat" or "eggshell" finishes. Though acrylic is easy to find, it comes in small bottles and you have to do more coats for it to show well, so it can get expensive unless you are doing a small sign or less lettering. Answer:	These are made from fir wood which is softwood. I think for carving and laser cutting you will need to buy hardwood? Softwood has advantages as it is fast growing and eco-friendly and therefore more cost effective which is why we preferred buying this in fir -- it smells wonderful too. Answer:	I doubt it would turn out well. The pieces of wood are extremely thin. I plan to use with stencils.

Answer:	That's a tricky one. I mean we obviously made sure it didn't have environmental toxins, but since we were making these for a sign, we didn't expect someone to want the paint to be food safe. That is probably asking too much of the average paint. You'd probably do better to save this wax for non-food use applications and keep separate wax for food use. Becky for Cornucopia Brands
Question:	Are the edges cut so they could fit together for a longer sign
Answer:	You could if the nails were small or lightweight. This is a pretty flimsy wood plaque so for a project like that I think I would use something a little heavier. I used it for a scrabble tile crossword, and it looks nice but is slightly warped.

Answer:	This is made of pine / fir wood. It is a softwood and you may do better with a hard wood for your bottle opener application. Softwood is more environmentally friendly as it grows faster, and hardwood tends to be more expensive as a result. The impt. thing is choosing the right wood for your application.
