Question:	Caan this be used handheld, meaning is there a handle option
Answer:	It's not normal. It's usually an indication you're winding too tight, or at the wrong angle, and it's forcing the teeth, amongst other moving parts to grind again one another. Given another force, it will eventually snap.

Answer:	I have yet to cut any fabric with them. But all my co-workers said, “they feel like fabric cutting scissors” I can try cutting fabric with them tomorrow and let you know.

Then the handle (see green knob from the picture) is easily operated by hand. In my opinion, it would be nearly impossible to use without clamping it into place. Answer:	Yes, ive done it, it works fine.i go pretty fast on the winder typically but with bulky warn and extra fine yarns i take it easy and put a hsnd very gently around the yarn as it enters the feeder (long metal rod, forst part of the device it touches) to ensure even tension throughout. You dont EVER want a too tight or too loose ball. One looses elasticity over time, the other just goes to pieces or creates knots when u work.

Answer:	When you buy yarn in "hanks" you put the yarn on the winder for ease of winding in a ball. Most often yarn comes in cakes, skeins, balls, etc., but hanks are hard to use and tangle easy if not wound into a ball or cake. Hope this helps.

Answer:	The main difference between the smaller models and large model Stanwood Needlecraft ball winders is the number of Yarn ounces they can wind on each bobbin. The small winders wind 4 oz. the larger unit will wind 10 oz., it should make no difference if the yarn being wound is fine or bulky. The great feature of the large winder is the clamping system, it is deep and really holds in place while winding yarns. 1.Set spindle into geared base by aligning notches. While holding geared base, turn spindle clockwise to secure.

2.Clamp the ball winder to table or other support using integral clamp, clamp will work on thickness up to 1.5''. Clamp is controlled by turning red knob.

3.Rotate yarn guide so loop end faces upward. Pull it out as far as it will go, locking it into working position as shown.

4.Yarn to be wound should be supported on a swift to allow uniform transfer. Feed end of yarn through yarn guide and secure in notch on top of spindle. Yarn is easily placed through guide by simple wrapping it, in a clockwise direction, around the end coil.

5,Turn handle clockwise, forming the yarn into a ball. Finished ball can be withdrawn from winder by simply pulling off from underside of ball. Yarn from ball can be used by withdrawing from center core or from outer edge.

But this product fell apart when I took it out of the box. Buy the one that is wood - not plastic. You won't be sorry
