13 best insulation knives
Insulation knives, also known as foam board knives or foam cutters, are specialized cutting tools used in crafting and construction, particularly in the field of insulation and arts and crafts. These knives are designed to cut various types of insulating materials, including foam board, foam insulation, and similar materials. Here is some information about insulation knives:
Blade Design: Insulation knives typically have a long, serrated blade that is specifically designed for cutting through foam and other insulation materials. The serrations on the blade help to create clean and precise cuts without tearing or damaging the material.
Blade Material: The blades of insulation knives are usually made from stainless steel or high-carbon steel to ensure durability and sharpness. These materials are resistant to corrosion and can withstand repeated use.
Handle Design: The handles of insulation knives are often ergonomically designed for a comfortable grip and ease of use. Some models may have rubberized or textured handles for better control during cutting.
Safety Features: Some insulation knives come with safety features such as blade guards or retractable blades to minimize the risk of accidents when the knife is not in use.
Versatility: These knives are not limited to insulation materials; they can also be used for cutting other soft materials in arts and crafts projects, such as foam board, foam core, and similar materials. This makes them versatile tools for a range of applications.
Cutting Techniques: When using an insulation knife, it's essential to use a sawing motion rather than applying excessive force. This helps achieve cleaner and more precise cuts in insulation materials.
Applications: Insulation knives are commonly used in construction and home improvement projects to cut and shape foam insulation boards or panels to fit specific spaces and insulate walls, roofs, or floors effectively. In arts and crafts, they are used for creating sculptures, props, and other foam-based projects.
Cleaning and Maintenance: After use, it's advisable to clean the blade of an insulation knife to remove any residue from the insulation material. Proper maintenance, such as keeping the blade sharp and storing the knife safely, ensures its longevity and continued effectiveness.
Safety Precautions: When using insulation knives, it's essential to follow safety guidelines to prevent injuries. Always cut away from your body, wear safety goggles, and exercise caution to avoid accidents.
In summary, insulation knives are specialized cutting tools designed for precision cutting of insulation materials, foam boards, and foam-based materials used in both construction and arts and crafts projects. These knives are valued for their ability to create clean and accurate cuts, making them essential tools for professionals and hobbyists alike.

User questions & answers
Question: | Where is it manufactured |
Answer: | Not sure if you have a typo in your question or not. But the tape is not black or grey it is clear for the most part; maybe a cloudy clear. You will not see it if used to secure rug to carpet or rug to floor. If you isi g it between to clear pieces of something then you will see it because it is not meant for that even if it would work. Good tape it is strong and performs well. Hope this helps. |
Question: | Possible to come with plastic sheath to cover the side that I'm not using |
Answer: | 1 6.5 ft roll |
Question: | How do you sharpen? I install insulation everyday and lots of it. Will it stay sharp |
Answer: | sound blocking requires open-cell foam, not closed-cell foam |
Question: | How thick of rigid foam board were you able to cut with this |
Answer: | I am an audiophile. This tape would not likely do much dampening because it is fairly low density. You would get better results from something like "blu tack" or one of the products sold for car audio deadening like "Dynamat Xtreme Extreme BULK 24"x12" Sheet 2 FT²". |

Morgan Cerablanket is tough, durable, 8 pound ceramic fiber blanket that is rated to 2400 F. This piece is 48" x 24" x 1" It is double needled for strength and longevity. It can take direct flame contact in many cases and also handle compression. It’s made in the USA. Generic, imported ceramic blanket is often not a true bargain when performance and lifespan are factored in. You have time and money invested in your project. Insulate with the best! Quality is certain with Morgan, one of the most respected names in the industry. Cerablanket is Morgan’s higher tier refractory blanket to its well-known Kaowool insulation. Cerablanket exceeds Kaowool in every specification with both a higher temperature rating at 2400 F versus 2300 F, and lesser impurities. Additionally, Cerablanket has low thermal conductivity, excellent thermal shock resistance, low heat storage capacity, and no smelly burnout because it has no organic binders. The R-value is approximately 2.2 per inch. For an 800 F. hot face with 1" of insulation, the cold face of the insulation would be around 176 F. This versatile ceramic insulation is perfect for kilns, blacksmith forges, wood stove insulation, fireplace insulation, welding, boilers, brazing, bead-making and glass blowing, soldering, raku and pottery kilns, muffler packing and many more applications. It is easy to cut to fit with the included CM-Ceramics knife that saves your blade. It is light weight, flexible, and will conform to the inner shape of a propane tank forge, for example. User questions & answers
Question: | where is it made |
Answer: | I have used this knife for cutting fiberglass blankets & batts, rock wood and foam pipe insulation with excellent results. Also recommend getting the blade sharpener as it does require frequent "dressing" for best results. |
Question: | Does this knife have a full tang |
Answer: | It should, but be sure you keep the blade SHARP!!. Sharpen every 3-5 cuts. The best thing about this knife is that it is long enough to get through the whole batt in one slice, but the insulation itself is pretty hard on metal edges. |
Question: | Can you use it to cut sheetrock |
Answer: | Thanks for the question. Yes, it does come with the blade cover, with a tag in the original box. Thanks for considering us! |
Question: | how long is the blade |
Answer: | No, mine cannot... It you are using this saw for cutting insulation, buy a sharpener works good but goes dull fast. |
