Product description
3M Hot Melt Adhesive 3792 is a clear, multipurpose adhesive for effectively bonding wood, lightweight metals and some plastics in furniture, upholstery and woodworking applications.
From the Manufacturer
This multi-purpose adhesive features a 40 - 50 second open bond, to allow for positioning and fit adjustment on wood, polyethylene, polypropylene, corrugated boxes, and lightweight substrates on furniture, upholstery and novelties. Its nearly instant bonding property reduces production time for POP assembly, joining, attaching, securing, repairing, potting, panel bonding, wire tacking, bundling, sealing, encapsulating, rigidizing, foam bonding, and packaging.
3M Hot Melt Adhesive 3792 is manufactured with 100% solids, thermoplastic resin for use with either the 3M Scotch-Weld Hot Melt Applicator LT, LT Quadrack or EC, depending on version. It is a low-volatile-organic compound (VOC) and produces minimal odor when heated, helping to support a comfortable work environment. This thermoplastic adhesive has excellent thermal shock, heat resistance, electrical insulating properties, and is non-corrosive.
About Hot Melt Adhesives
Hot melt adhesives/hot-glue sticks have a relatively hot melting point that ranges between approximately 250 – 380°F (121 – 196°C), depending on the formulation, and are applied with hot-melt applicators, commonly referred to as hot-glue guns. Hot-melt glues provide a nearly instant bond between many plastics, paper and wood, but when the bond is reheated, some varieties will soften, allowing the bonded surfaces to be separated. The quick-stick nature of hot-melt adhesives speeds up operations in packaging and production.
Low melt adhesives/ hot-glue sticks have a relatively low melting point that ranges between approximately 170 – 250°F (76 – 121°C), depending on the formulation, and are applied with low-temperature applicators, commonly referred to as hot-glue guns. Low-melt adhesives are beneficial in that they can be used to bond heat sensitive materials such as foam and a range of plastics. They provide a nearly instant bond but when the bond is reheated, some varieties will soften, allowing the bonded surfaces to be separated.

Hot Melt Adhesive 3792
3M Hot Melt Adhesive 3792 is a clear, multipurpose adhesive for effectively bonding wood, lightweight metals and some plastics in furniture, upholstery and woodworking applications.
Recommended Applications:
Understanding Hot Melt Adhesives
Hot melt adhesives, also known as glue sticks, are liquefied thermoplastic adhesives available in both low and high-temperature versions. Low temperature hot melt adhesives are applied at 250°F / 121°C temperatures, which makes them ideal for bonding electronics, plastics, cloth and other heat sensitive materials. High temperature hot melt adhesives are applied at 380°F / 193°C and produce a stronger bond than the low temperature hot melts.
Melted adhesive is extruded through a nozzle using a 3M Hot Melt Applicator by either pneumatic pressure, a mechanical trigger mechanism, or with pressure applied directly on the stick. Different nozzles can be used to apply thin, wide strips or narrow, thicker beads. Hot melt adhesive generally sets quickly, ranging from a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on the adhesive formulation.
Bringing Better Ideas to the Surface through Science and Innovation
In the 3M Industrial Adhesives and Tapes Division, they apply the science of adhesion to deliver innovative solutions that improve the design and manufacturing processes of companies around the world. In the end, their technologies help customers like you deliver competitive products to the market faster and more efficiently.

What is Hot Melt?
Hot-melt adhesive applicators, commonly called “glue guns” are tools used to apply liquefied thermoplastic adhesives and are available in low and high-temperature versions. Low-temperature adhesive applicators operate at approximately 250ºF/ 121ºC and are beneficial when bonding heat sensitive materials such as electronics, plastics and cloth. High-temperature applicators operate at a minimal temperature of approximately 380ºF/ 193ºC. The applicator creates a flow of adhesive when a solidified adhesive stick is fed into the heat chamber, where it is melted using a fixed-temperature heating element. The molten adhesive is then extruded through a nozzle by either pneumatic pressure, a mechanical trigger mechanism, or with pressure applied directly on the stick. Nozzles can be changed to dispense adhesive in a manner that meets various requirements; from a thin, wide strip for carton sealing, to a narrow, thicker bead for bonding wood, composites, or metal. Nozzles are typically metal and become extremely hot during use, which can quickly burn skin. Once dispensed from the applicator, the adhesive generally sets quickly, in most cases just a few seconds. Hot-melt applicators are widely used in industry, crafts, home and work with materials ranging from paper and lace to wood and some metals.

The Hot Melt Advantage
Hot-melt adhesive applicators, commonly called “glue guns” are tools used to apply liquefied thermoplastic adhesives and are available in low and high-temperature versions. Low-temperature adhesive applicators operate at approximately 250°F/ 121°C and are beneficial when bonding heat sensitive materials such as electronics, plastics, and cloth. High-temperature applicators operate at a minimal temperature of approximately 380°F/ 193°C. User questions & answers
Question: | What is the softening temp or working temp? How hot can it get after application before it will fail |
Answer: | hello, the application working temperature straight out of the applicator is about 260-265F. Once the glue fully cools off & re-crystallize the heat resistance is about 130F. Should be close to full performance without softening at that temp. The softening temp is about 205F, where the molecules begin to break down via heat. Failure normally depends on type of substrate. The heavier/harder substrates (wood, heavy stock) may fail way sooner than 200F. Lighter substrates (paper, cardboard, fabric, Styrofoam) could be closer to the 200, depends how big pieces are. Thank you for your inquiry. |
Question: | How many are in the 11 lbs package |
Answer: | Hi Barbara,There are 15 sticks of hotmelt per pound, so the 11 lb case has 165 sticks. Thanks,The Binding Source |

A 25 second open time, along a 1/8" bead, is sufficient for positioning and adjusting for fit and supports high-tempo productivity for packaging, woodworking, and applications that involve fibrous materials. The low viscosity prevents stringing even at fast production speeds.
Hot melt adhesives also known as glue sticks, are liquefied thermoplastic adhesives available in both low and high-temperature versions. Low temperature hot melt adhesives are applied at 250°F/121°C temperatures, which makes them ideal for bonding electronics, plastics, cloth and other heat sensitive materials. High temperature hot melt adhesives are applied at 380°F/193°C.
