10 best silver polish for flute
Silver polish for flutes is a specialized cleaning and maintenance product designed to clean and restore the appearance of silver-plated or solid silver flute instruments. Here's what you need to know about it:
Purpose: The primary purpose of silver polish for flutes is to remove tarnish, dirt, and oxidation from the flute's silver surface. Tarnish can develop over time due to exposure to air, humidity, and contact with oils from the player's hands.
Ingredients: Silver polish typically contains a combination of chemicals and abrasive compounds that work together to break down tarnish and restore the silver's shine.Common ingredients may include ammonia, sulfuric acid, or other chemicals specifically formulated for cleaning silver.
Application: To use silver polish for flutes, you typically follow these steps:
- Apply a small amount of polish onto a soft, lint-free cloth or a silver polishing cloth.
- Gently rub the cloth over the flute's silver-plated or silver parts, paying extra attention to areas with tarnish or discoloration.
- Use a separate clean cloth to buff the silver to a shine.
- Be careful not to apply too much pressure, as excessive rubbing can cause damage to the flute's finish.
Precautions: It's essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions when using silver polish to avoid any potential damage to the flute. Additionally:
- Avoid contact with the flute's key mechanisms and pads, as the chemicals in the polish can harm these components.
- Ensure that the flute is disassembled before polishing to prevent polish residue from getting inside the instrument.
Frequency: The frequency of polishing a flute depends on how often it's played and the environmental conditions it's exposed to. Some players polish their flutes after every use, while others may do so less frequently.
Storage: Proper flute storage in a protective case or cover can help minimize the need for frequent polishing. Storing the flute in a dry, cool environment can also reduce the risk of tarnish.
Alternative Cleaning Methods: Some players prefer alternative cleaning methods, such as using a silver polishing cloth or a silver dip solution. These methods can be less abrasive and may require less effort.
Maintenance: In addition to polishing, routine maintenance of the flute, including regular cleaning of the keys, rods, and pivot points, is essential for keeping the instrument in good playing condition.
In summary, silver polish for flutes is a specialized product designed to clean and restore the shine of silver-plated or solid silver flute instruments. It should be used with care, following the manufacturer's instructions, and in conjunction with other routine maintenance to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of the flute.

User questions & answers
Question: | Is there any silicone used |
Answer: | I believe it means that the position of the Reed is locked down on the plate so the ligature can only go on one way on the mouthpiece. |
Question: | I have a silver trombone, and I was just wondering, would the silver polish or lacquer polish be better for my instrument |
Answer: | Don't know about Martin. I'm pleased with the Versa ligature but I can't compare it to the vandoren leather. The web fabric ligature has very solid support and the band in front molds to your mouthpiece. I believe it would hold its support longer than a leather which would stretch out eventually. |
Question: | Will this take the tarnish off of a cover plate on a dobro |
Answer: | In my opinion, it should work well with either plastic or hard rubber. I've been very happy with mine, as I like it better than the older models. |
Question: | Can i use this to clean the inside of a silver flute |
Answer: | if you mean the teethguard, yes separately. if the ligature insert is you are talking about, I have never seen it sold separately. I would go to home depot or ace´s hardware and have them show me a piece I could buy and insert it. |

User questions & answers
Question: | My daughter is required to play an wind instrument in starting in the 4th grade. Is this a good flute for her to grow into for band |
Answer: | The 500 series is considered their professional line. The basic flutes are the 200 series (ie, Yamaha 222, 282, etc) and the step up models are the 300 and 400 series (ie, Yamaha 382, 462, etc. ). That said, this price range overlaps heavily with other brands’ higher-level step-up models. So in terms of price point, it would be comparable to step-up/advanced intermediate models. |
Question: | l just got one, and the pieces are really hard to put together. I've never had that with a different flute. Is that how all these flutes are made |
Answer: | Yes, this model does have one. You can buy with or without, but if you buy from us, just message us to be sure we send the one with the c# trill. We keep both models in stock all the time. |
Question: | Does the end joint have 2 keys or 3 keys? Thanks |
Answer: | All 200s are made in Indonesia |
Question: | It the flute real |
Answer: | No, all 200, 300, and 400 model flutes are made in Japan - all of them, no matter the American version or the international versions. You have to buy a 500 series or higher for the flute to be made in Japan. That said, these are very high quality instruments. |

User questions & answers
Question: | How long does the polish stay? like how long once does this need to be applied to maintain the shine of the silver product? thank you |
Answer: | Scotchgard Tarni-Shield Silver Polish can be used on jewelry, silver, copper, brass, and other metals. |
Question: | is this safe for sterling silver with gemstones |
Answer: | I am not familiar with Pandora jewlery |
Question: | What is the difference between the polish and the cream |
Answer: | I believe so. It's the best silver polish I've found: does not damage the silver and it keeps it clean for a long time. If your flute is kept in a case, you could buy the silver protective strips from Amazon which prevent tarnishing ( but only if the space is closed and air isn't passing through.) |
Question: | New to polishing, seeking educated answer. What kind of cloths to use with the solution? And then what kind of cloth to use afterwards for buffing |
Answer: | Thank you for asking. Yes, they are the same. |

User questions & answers
Question: | would this work good for jewelry? (specifically silver |
Answer: | No. None at all. But what I found better that I like and is much more responsive to my playing is ROVNER, the DARK ligature. Great tone. I also have the OPTIMUM. It is my next pick but my favorite is the ROVNER. |
Question: | Can this be used on sterling silverware |
Answer: | Finish is difficult to qualify but using the metal versus a plastic ligature appears to give a clearer and brighter sound. |
Question: | Is this for the outside or can it be used on the inside as well |
Answer: | No and yes. The Vandoren is much lighter weight metal than my Bonade inverted ligatures. Check how you are storing your Bonade, it should not need "remolding" for each use. Something in the case may be bending it. They are substantial ligatures. The Vandoren, being lighter, should restrain the reed's vibrations less. It might seem a bit brighter or richer than the Bonade. The M/O is my preference of the two. |
Question: | How to clean the cloth without losing the polishing capability |
Answer: | Considering that all b-flat clarinets are usually the same size, yes this will indeed fit the LJ Hutchen B-flat clarinet. |

Large silver polishing cloth, measuring 22-7/8 x 15 inches (58 x 38cm). Great for use on larger instrument surfaces.
- Large silver polishing cloth
User questions & answers
Question: | maWhat material is this |
Answer: | Silver cloth uses microfiber for the fabric, and the dirt removal effect and gloss removal effect are greatly improved. Brings a fine and beautiful gloss. Please use on silver or silver-plated parts. * Please use「 Metal cloth」 on the surface of the nickel-plated / no-lacquer brass finish. |
Question: | can you wash this cloth |
Answer: | You can, but whatever is in the cloth gradually goes away and doesn’t work as well. |
Question: | Do you need to put polishing agent on the cloth |
Answer: | Nope, needs nothing at all the cloth does all the work for you! |
Question: | Can you use this alone or do you need polish |
Answer: | It depends entirely on how badly tarnished the item might be. If you are just cleaning off finger prints, no polish needed. I bought this as a gift so can't say more. |

User questions & answers
Question: | what's the difference between the cream and lotion |
Answer: | I have ben using Wrights copper cleaner for over 30 years. I cannot imagine why it would not work on copper pennies |
Question: | What are all the ingredients in Wright's Silver Polish |
Answer: | Yes, it works on all levels of tarnish, but as jwintle mentioned, it might take more than one session of polishing. What I have done for heavy tarnish is to apply the cream and let it sit awhile; then rinse. Always dry immediately to avoid spots on your item. |
Question: | Can this be use on other surfaces like plastic |
Answer: | I can not see any reason it could not be used to brighten up copper jewelry, it takes hardly any rubbing at all. I have used it everyday since 1950 on all my wedding copper bottom pans, they look like new. |
Question: | Can this be used to remove gold plating from stainless steel |
Answer: | No. The lacquer has to be removed otherwise the copper will look splotchy. I just refinished a coffee table removing all lacquer. It was worth the effort. Looks beautiful. |

User questions & answers
Question: | What is the cloth made of |
Answer: | I do not sell this silencer. Sorry. I have one and works well for what I need it for |
Question: | Does the cloth have chemicals that help it to polish instruments? Or is it chemical free |
Answer: | This is designed for a trumpet, which has a much smaller bell. I seriously doubt it would work in a trombone. Look for a trombone mute instead. |
Question: | Does this work for polishing silver |
Answer: | It should. The shape of this silencer allows it to fit various types of cornets or trumpets. |
Question: | How is this different from the microfiber cloth my eyeglass store gives me to clean my galsses |
Answer: | Yes, I have this exact mute and it fits in my Cecilio pocket trumpet. It distorts the sound a little, naturally, but it's been great for practicing indoors. I hope you enjoy it! |

User questions & answers
Question: | is there any smell? im allergic to cleaners. thankyou |
Answer: | The one I received did not have any smell at all. |
Question: | Is there a right and wrong side to the white cloth, or do both sides remove tarnish equally as well |
Answer: | Both sides of the white cloth work to remove tarnish. |
Question: | To the seller; can i use this cleaner on a ring that has stone? Hope its not harmful to stones |
Answer: | For the metal part of the piece, if it is silver, gold (14 k and 18 k) and platinum, use the white cloth. If your piece has porous stones such as opals, pearls, malachite, turquoise, and the like, avoid the stone when using the white cloth. If the white cloth accidentally touches the stone is not going to damage it. To clean this type of gems, use the gray cloth, which is untreated. For other stones known as hard stones, such as amethyst, peridot, citrine, aquamarine, emerald, diamond and sapphire, you can use the white cloth. |
Question: | Can you wash this when it's dirty and use it again after?and if so what kind of soap like laundry detergent?and could u wash in the washer Machine if |
Answer: | The polishing cloth has the cleaning ingredients impregnated in the white cloth. These ingredients get released every time a piece of jewelry is polished. Washing the cloth will remove the remaining cleaning ingredients, for that reason it shouldn't be washed. Something important to know: The black stains left in the cloth are the tarnish and the contaminants that had been removed from the metal. The polishing cloth keeps cleaning even having the black stains. You can keep using it as long as you see your pieces getting shiny. The gray part of the cloth is untreated and you can wash it any way you wish and keep it to buffer plated pieces of jewelry or soft porous stones (good for eyeglasses and cell phones too!) When the polishing ingredients wear out and the polishing cloth's performance is not as good, then it will be time to replace the cloth. I hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions. |
